Marxists, anarchists, intellectuals, constitutionalists, and all anti-war activists beware, today the United States government has chosen to squash civil liberties and silence dissent. In an effort to combat enemies at home and anti-war messages, Congress last year had passed the Espionage Act. It penalized those who aided the enemy, however, it was clear many government officials abused the law by locking up those who committed the vague crimes of “showing disloyalty” or “impeding the war effort”. The First Amendment of the United States Constitution clearly states that the government cannot abridge freedom of speech or of the press.
