What do you do when life gives you lemons? It was my freshmen year of high school when I was labeled as dumb. Honestly who could blame my classmates; with grades that were so close to C’s and zero social skills that it would my hermits jealous, I was the school’s clown. I was only scraping by, that is until my schools counselor gave me a flyer recommending me for a Trio program named Upward Bound. At the time this meant nothing to me. I was merely going to the meeting to skip an hour. While sitting there with my other classmates we all listened to this nice gentlemen talking about the pros of Upward Bound. Later in the year I got a letter congratulating me on making it into the program. That summer was so seriel that I would give anything to have it back. I learned about the ACT’s, SAT’s, colleges, courses, and even how to study properly. The beginning of my sophomore year I was practically another person. My sophomore year I finally reached out to people and made my first ever best friend. That following summer I went back to Upward Bound and flew right into junior year with the highest hopes one could have. That year I rose my GPA to a 3.6 and ACT scores, joined National Honors Society, and even finished the last semester with a 4.0 and ranked in the top quarter of my school. When it came to picking out my classes I didn’t go easy. I wanted to see what I could do with myself. I joined AP Lit. and Comp., AP Biology and College Algebra. The following summer I helped out professor at my local college, the University of Arkansas, and volunteered my whole summer helping them with research on rice plants. I made connections and met people who even showed me a side of studies that I would have never thought I would like. I can safely say that at this moment in time, I am the happiest I have ever
