The Pruitt-Igoe explores the social, economic and legislative issues that led to the decline of conventional public housing in America, and the city centers in which they were built, while tracing the personal and poignant narratives of several of the residents of the notorious Pruitt-Igoe public housing complex in St. Louis.
The city misunderstood the continued growth of its own population, as Jeff said “there was instead a flight to the suburbs.” The film is a historical analysis of the impact of the 1949 Housing Act, where the Pruitt Igoe and other cities like this were introduced.
