The book I am reporting on is The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane. The setting of the story is on battlefields during the Civil War. The story was set around the 1860’s during the Civil War. The historical context of the book shows how battles were during the Civil War. The battles were brutal and disgusting. This story did a good job of showing us how things really were during the Civil War. The Narrator of the story is Henry Fleming. He is also known as “the Youth”. He tells us his thoughts and what he was feeling before he joined the war and as he went into battles. The protagonist of the story is Henry Fleming. Henry is the main character in the book. It is limited, we only know the thoughts and feeling of Henry Fleming. The novel is very realistic showing us how the war was fought.
The significance of the title of The Red Badge of Courage is all the wounds that happened during the Civil War. The blood of the battles made people either courageous and fight for what they feel is right and others were wanted to run away and escape the reality of the

This book is not one that I would recommend to others unless they were into war stories. It was hard for me to get into this book, because the language is not one that we use in this area of the of the country at this time. I was just as discouraged as Henry when the battles were going on and there was so much death and destruction. When Henry had his turning point I wanted to see what was going to happen when he became more loyal to the war, holding the flag and leading battles that resulted in victories. It is hard for me to believe this story took place in only a few days
