At some point in life, everyone struggles. Many people struggle to forgive the person who hurt them. Reuven struggled to forgive Danny for hurting him. Despite the circumstances, Reuven decided to forgive his “religious clopper” and become friends with him. The two boys proved their friendship through a myriad of different circumstances and experiences. The two came from very different backgrounds, yet their religion was the same. An Orthodox Jew and an apikorosim come together in an unlikely friendship in the novel The Chosen. Reuven proved his friendship with forgiving, accommodating, and wisdom. Many see an injury as a downfall or a misfortune. Yet this injury turned out to be an opportunity, Danny came to the hospital to ask for forgiveness for hitting Reuven with a baseball. Reuven displayed wisdom by talking with Danny. Danny often did not know what to do about several events. Every time this happened, his friend tried his best to advise his friend on what to do. Reuven also displayed wisdom in keeping his silence and participating in the Talmud “battle”. Reb Saunders wanted a spy to tell him what Danny read in the library. Reuven participated in a Talmud “battle” to cover up for his friend’s grouchy attitude. Reuven displays wisdom in dealing with his friend’s problems. Reuven valued his friend and tried to be the best fried he could be. The two friends had their problems but they learned to help each other. Danny had many problems with his father and needed a good friend. By becoming friends with Danny, Reuven gained three traits.
