The word “rich” has many definitions, two of which are to have wealth or great possessions and to be abounding in desirable elements or qualities. In “The Rich Brother,” both of the brothers, Pete and Donald, are rich in their own way. Which brother is the rich one is a matter of opinion. “The Rich Brother” is a piece from Tobias Wolff’s Back in the World written in 1945. Wolff has won awards for his memoirs and currently teaches creative writing at Stanford University. The majority of his works focus on his damaged family and his time spent in Vietnam.
