The prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease varies considerably worldwide. This is partially due to the lack of a common procedure and methods in conducting epidemiological studies, including diagnostic criteria and different mean population ages. Despite these sources of bias, differences in age-adjusted dementia prevalence rates still exist among the numerous regions of the globe. Researchers have concluded from their studies that there is increasing evidence that the prevalence of dementia is expanding swiftly, particularly in countries with middle and low incomes. The aging world population is having a profound impact on the rise of the Alzheimer epidemic, and is leading governments around the world to respond looking for solutions. Granted that young-onset cases are being caught in increasing numbers, Alzheimer’s remains a disease that affects older people at a disproportionate rate, leading to disability and dependence. …show more content…
Western Europe has the most number of people with dementia (7.0 million), closely followed by East Asia with 5.5 million, South Asia with 4.5 million and North America with 4.4 million.
