The boy in the story is having trouble deciding between the bass and Sheila Mant and he might choose the girls for these reasons. The first reason is that the boy has been in love with Sheila all summer and finally has the chance to impress her on a date. Another reason he might pick the girl is because he can’t stop watching her, he watches how she sits on the diving board and he has become obsessed. The boy also tries to impress her hoping she will notice him. He does difficult dives off the diving board in hopes to impress the girl he is in love with and he swims across the river all day trying to get her to notice him. The boy final worked up the courage to ask out Sheila and did ask much as he could to impress her. Because the boy is only fourteen and he doesn’t have his license, or a car to impress Sheila with he washed is canoe from top to bottom. We all make mistakes and in the book The River, the Bass, and Sheila Mant the boy regrets his decision for the rest of his life. As the narrator is fighting the bass and watching Sheila his feelings for her over take any thoughts about the bass and he cuts the line. The boy chose the girl because he really liked her and he never though she would agree to go on a date with him. At the end of the date Sheila leaves with some body else, and the narrator is devastated with the decision he made. The boy loves Sheila and she doesn’t love him back, so the boy’s obsession slowly fades into nothing but regret. Then I was in sixth grade I thought about playing volleyball but I was unsure if I would like it so I waiting until seventh grade to start playing. I also waited because I wanted more time for homework and friends. If I would have started in sixth grade I could have gotten a head start, but instead I waited until the following year and to this day I wish I started
