Would you go to the NFL if you knew there was a 78% chance of getting a concussion. Believe it or not 3,500 players try out for the NFL each year and only 7% percent make it. So do you think all 3,500 know the percentage of getting a concussion? Or what if they do know and think it’s not very effective. So my question is how has the concussion rate changed the game of football? To me it has changed the game a lot. In 1920 when the nfl was founded there only 8 concussions now in 2015 there were 271 players with concussions. So in 96 years the concussions ration has been rising. That might not seem like a lot but just think about it the concussions go up a lot each year. According to CBS sports more than 61% of former players had concussions during their time in the league. The study consisted of 1,094 former players, ranging from 27 to 86 years old. This leads me to the next affect which is player performance even though players come back doesn’t mean they perform great. The players that don’t usually perform great are the veterans (older player), and players that have had the injury before according to NFL outsider. And if there’s one rotten apple on the team then the whole tree is bad. The biggest effects is long term effects long term and short term effects is a big difference the short term ones can go away but the long term effects are rare but stay with you forever a big one is the tear of your brain tissue which can lead to brain cancer ( what happened to center Mike Webster) another is attention problems.
