Within the institution, racism exists in the form of rules and regulations that are discriminatory and its failure to provide services to students due to color, culture, and ethnicity. Whereas early in history the Blacks were not allowed to engage in sports, during the 1950s they were able to enter and begin to dominate the sports arena. This trend penetrated the college sports and began the commercialization of intercollegiate sports. However, exclusion exists when examining all sports and it becomes apparent that Black athletes are missing from most sports at various levels of competition.
