What does a person need to survive? Typically the answer is oxygen, sleep, food, water, and shelter. However, in many places nonessential things such as cell phones and cars get added to this short list of human necessities. This consumer culture that has enveloped western countries is a danger to itself, populations worldwide, as well as to the biodiversity of the planet itself. This culture creates opportunities for vulnerable populations to be exploited. Because consumers are indoctrinated into this ideology from an early age, the perceived need of abundant new goods from unethical suppliers creates irreconcilable moral dilemmas for consumers everywhere.
