In the novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, a story of two migrant workers brought upon the hard times of the 1930’s and the great depression, there are a variety of themes that are used in order to explain the flaws of society, unlike those of more contemporary writers Steinbeck uses the modern language of the times and embraces the social issues in an attempt to bring attention and potential resolve to them. One theme expressed throughout the novella is that violence is never going to fully solve a problem. This struggle of violence is evident between multiple characters such as Lennie, George, and Curley. Thus I believe that violence will never truly solve a problem.
