I would like to start off by saying that both the visit with Chris Bohjalian and the two articles written by Albright and Beam were all great. I found all three pieces to be most interesting and everything that was either said or written was informational, intriguing, and controversial. Having Bohjalian visit our class and discuss his book The Sandcastles Girls was compelling along with the excellent points he made as he answered different questions from our class. His outlook on the Armenian Genocide and what he wanted his book to convey was impelling. I found Albright’s article Will Trump Stop Before It’s Too Late? To be more biased than Beam’s article Stop Comparing Trump to Stalin. Yet, coming from a person who isn’t political at all, nor knows much about Trump rather than what I have seen, read on social media or conversation with others. I would have to say that they both made valuable points that challenged my own thoughts and had me absorbed with what they had to say. I think they both define Trump to be a little strident and childish, which even I can agree with. I don’t get into politics yet I do have a twitter account and everyone knows Trump likes his twitter and more times than others can he be outspoken and unprofessional. In ways, both articles made fair points, but I would say that I see an error in when people relate Trump to Hitler and Stalin because no matter what Trump has done or said he is no comparison to these two ruthless dictators. He may be and say a lot of things, but during his time as president has he even come close to relation to what those horrific beings did in their time of power. I enjoyed reading these two pieces on Trump and toning in with Bohjalian and hearing what he had to say and his thoughts and viewpoints on the Armenian Genocide and today’s stance on that and other situations around the globe.
