Is the irony of certain situations just by chance, or does it serve a significant purpose throughout our lives? I believe that irony brings out the flaws in an individual he or she can not see within themselves. This often causes us to find ourselves in difficult or unorthodox situations, revealing our true identity . In “The Minority Report” by Philip K. Dick and “The Sandy Hook Hoax” by Reeves Wiedeman, both protagonists: Lenny Pozner and John A. Anderton face the challenge of being involved in a conspiracy theory. Lenny, who was once a serious conspiracist, never would imagine his son Noah being killed in a mass shooting and becoming part of a conspiracy. John A. This argument shows less of a stronger side of being close minded, but is still relevant to what we are talking about. Pozner’s irony is him being a serious conspiracist and now on the other side of debunking his own son’s conspiracy. His son, Noah had been a victim of amongst twenty children and seven adults. Lenny had a creative mindset for conspiracies, basically being the first Newtown parent to discover conspiracy theorists didn’t believe his son had been killed. On his way to school that day Lenny said “ I probably listened to an Alex Jones podcast after I dropped the kids off at school that morning”. Also, saying “I have an imaginative mind” (Wiedeman). These quotations identify the irony of being on the opposing side of a conspiracy now. A man who once searched for answers of others is defending his own, fighting the hoaxers. He was open minded when it came to conspiracies in general. However, close minded when it came to the reality of the everyday tragic events. Pozner would never have thought that anything of this type of caliber could happen to his family, although the reality is it can happen to anyone.
