Scape goats are very helpful form of propaganda used to blame people for bad events. One of the very worst in American history is the Great Depression. This event caused lots of pain for the american people so the scapegoat for this was none other than the President. President Herbert Hoover worked very hard as president but once the Stock Market crashed he soon became hated by a majority of people. Growing up was hard for Hoover but he worked harder.His parents did when he was young and he then went to go live with his Aunt and Uncle in Oregon.Hoover went to Stanford and got a degree in engineering and after college he went to work at mines.Working his way up the chain of command he became a mine engineer and eventually made enough money to start his own mining business in Europe.While there he helped troops during World War 1 that helped his reputation for is future candidacy.

So Herbert's plan to solve this was to make jobs and keep money in the people's pockets.This resulted in many public work projects that made new jobs. This all temporarily worked and Hoover said the the depression would be over within a month. None of this became true. The economy worsened and more people lost jobs. Even banks started to close and people blamed Hoover for it naming signs of homelessness after him, like empty pockets were called hoover flags and homeless villages were called Hoovervilles.

From humble beginnings to a hated man in the American culture. But this could have happened to any president, taking full blame for something you had little to do
