If someone you loved had a degenerative disease or paralyzed which kept him or her unable to live a meaningful life would you help him or her commit suicide? There are going to be many people in this world that agree with assisted suicide and others who are very against it. Is assisted suicide right or wrong? Many of us don’t know the answer to that because it is based on our own opinions. “All persons have a moral right to choose feely what they will do with their lives as long as they inflict no harm on others” (Santa Clara University, 2015). The movie “The Sea Inside” portrayed how hard assisted suicide is on the persons family and the person who wants to die. The ethical issues that were in this film were Roman’s autonomy and the right to die and was Ramon’s life low enough to justify euthanasia. …show more content…
He believed being a quadriplegic took away his freedom, as him being adventurous before his accident. Throughout the film I was going back and forth in my head thinking if that were one of my family members would I help them. I believe he does have the right to ask his family for help only if they are willing to. If not then he would have to let it go. It takes a huge toll on the family if they are not accepting of it, like how it did on Ramon’s brother and father. Romans family’s belief about euthanasia was an ethical issue. They want what is best but also caring for him day in and day out is tiring. I believe we just have to accept their wishes. Ramon wishing for euthanasia is a personal thing, as not all people with this illness would want to die.
