Micheal Josephson once said, “The real test of character is whether you will do the right thing even when it costs more than you want to pay.” Character can also be defined as doing the right thing even when no one else is watching. There are six pillars that make up character: caring, citizenship, fairness, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness. The first pillar, caring, is about having concern for others and being able to put them before yourself. Speaking from personal experience, sometimes things are hard and most people come to a point where there is something they struggle with. An example I can recall with how I demonstrate this pillar is when I see someone in school struggling with something I understand completely, I will try and help them to understand it at least a little bit better then they did before. …show more content…
This character pillar can be demonstrated by doing things like voting, being involved with public services, and running for certain offices. Something I have done is work towards smoke free parks in Hartford, this has been done through the TATU group at school. The third pillar, fairness, can be one of the hardest pillars to abide by and stay true to; due to the fact, it means doing the right thing even if the odds aren't in your favor. Fairness can be related back to the golden rule, treat other the way you want to be treated. A way to demonstrate fairness would be when hearing about drama instead of just listening to one side, try and hear the opposing persons argument also. The fourth pillar, respect, is something in order to receive you must give and vise versa. The way I demonstrate respect is through paying attention in class and putting forth my best effort.
