Using abuse, hatred, and sexual assault, The Color Purple, The Bluest Eye, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Sellout all make for spectacularly sad and powerful novels. In all four novels there is an abundance of racism, abuse, injustice, religion, and sexual assault. All of these novels make the reader not only feel bad for each character being put through the difficult and harsh situations but makes the reader question “Why?” Racial discrimination began a really long time ago; and even though slavery has stopped in most parts of the world, there is still a lot of discrimination. Racial issues are also not just against blacks and whites, however that is the most popular form of racism. The racism and discrimination against people also include women, men, age, and other ethnicities. There might be a question floating around that is similar to this: why do these books matter and why or how do they relate to anything that has to deal with racial injuctice and discrimination of today's world or even yesterday's world. The Color Purple by Alice Walker is a very inspiring writer and black women who was ticked about the way black females were treated. This novel is very powerful in its own unique ways. It relates to the way blacks were treated as a female. Walker writes about a young women around the age of fifteen or sixteen, who has a very hard family life. The main character, Celie's, only happiness in her life was her sister, Nettie. Celie's father abuses her and rapes her at multiple times
