As a Young Marine, I live to remember those who fought for my liberty. I wear the uniforms of those who gave up their freedoms and their lives so that we could have the luxury of living without fear. We serve as a constant reminder of their sacrifices, and we exist to show the world that the efforts of the fallen have not been in vain. Repeatedly, I have had the opportunity to show our veterans and our servicemen that their efforts mattered, and in each instance, I have seen how the smallest amount of appreciation can have profound effects.

As part of the Semper Fi Fund, I first saw the impact I can have in appreciating the servicemen and servicewomen of our country. I spent multiple days preparing care packages for our active duty servicemen and writing Christmas cards for the men and women who wouldn't see their families that year. We knew our actions could never take away the pain of their lifestyle, but we could help them cope by knowing their actions were appreciated. By providing these small luxuries, we reassured our warriors that they were constantly thought of and valued, and this was evident in the replies we received weeks later.

One after another, amazing men and women from the Second World War to the War on Terror came forth and regaled the audience with the most intimate details of their military experience. We heard of their fears and triumphs, their losses and victories, and one after another, they ended with a common point. Continue our legacy. Do not let our efforts go in vain.
