Many people view Grendel as a human with human like characteristics. Since Grendel is a defendant of the Biblical Cain, he shares linage with that of a human. Besides the way Grendel eats he is actually very similar to humans. Beowulf claims that Grendel has “no weapons” (S. Heaney line 683.)
