In today’s society, gender bias is of great concern for both men and women. Discrimination continues to be a major habit in today’s society. Explicit gender bias is displayed in a way which is meant to be expressed and implicit gender bias is an unconscious attribution that takes place in someone’s mind without them realizing it. Gender inequality is a social problem that causes people to get treated unfairly. It causes others to believe that only women can do certain things or only men can do certain things. It’s not so much about what they can do really but what their rights are and how men and women are treated differently because of it. In the article, The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap, it explains how in 2015, women that were working full-time in the United States were paid just 80% of what men are getting paid. There is a 20% gap between the pay rates of men and women (Miller). This is significant because despite the fact that there are many women that have the same job as some men, women still get lower pay, even if it’s only a little bit, it’s still something and that is not fair for women. In the work environment, gender bias has effected promotion, career opportunities and the ability of getting hired. A lot of people prefer to promote or hire men as leaders/managers because men are more prone to handle the stress or get the respect that a leader deserves. Or maybe it’s that men are considered “stronger” than woman and are capable of running a company. Or maybe it’s that people like to believe that women are more dramatic than men, which causes the men to do keep it more professional. “Men are seen more credible and easier to work for...” (Eichler). This shows that this is what they are looking for in the work field, someone who is trustworthy and not full of drama as they say women
