Weary of War
Throughout history, war has mapped the lives of human beings. The American Civil War was fought because Southern states wished to secede from the Union. This was because they wanted to continue the practice of slavery and believed that each state government should decide the legality of slavery of its own state. President Lincoln believed that the Civil War was necessary to unite the nation. Similar to his thinking, many people believe that war is necessary to settle disputes. Liam O'Flaherty disagrees with this way of thinking. Through his use of irony and imagery in "The Sniper," he demonstrates that war is unpredictable and tears humanity apart.
