When the Spanish come to Latin America they had three mission god, gold, and glory but little knew about the fourth unseen benefit of conquering this the world the enslavement of the natives. The way the viceroyalties and Peru treated the native could only be describe as cruel treatment of these natives. Though they were never called slaves they would the next best thing due to the Spaniards and the system of encomia. Even though this plan had good intentions the overall execution was lacking which cause many uprising and revolutions in the near future. The encomienda system was used so the king/queen of Spain didn’t have to physically be in Latin America to rule it. The encomienda on paper allowed the Spanish to do their duties and the Indians theirs so they could live in harmony, but due to greed and other factors the Spaniards where corrupted and use the system for their own selfish gains. Once some Spaniards started taking advantage of the native people most followed suit and a system that was supposed to keep balance between the two became a way of keeping the native down. …show more content…
To put simple this was a complete lie, the native people may have been free on paper but they could never leave. They would work on these Spaniards farms getting paid next to nothing while having to buy there food, cloths, and even homes from there employers at a mark up if course. Having to spend all of their income back to the man who paid them left the natives in colossus debt. Lets not forget about the Physical and mental abuse they also went trough due to the fact that the Spanish seen the natives as 2nd class citizens.
