How much of our lives do you think we control? From what i have read in "The Sports Gene" by David Epstein is our physical ability is an advantage over practice, and so therefore we don't have much control over whether or not we are successful. Just like when Donald Thomas became a world champion high jumper after only eight months of practice, beating an opponent who had trained for twenty-one years. That is why when you practice you control more of your life when it comes to sports because practice makes perfect. Whenever you practice your body becomes more used to what you are doing and starts to excel in what you do. Why does your body become better at what you do? That is what happens when you continue to practice for a long period of time your muscles get bigger and you start developing muscle memory. Even though Donald opponent in the National Championship, Hunter had a lot of practice compared to Donald, but since Donald had genes that gave him abnormally large Achilles tendon he beat Hunter. At the same time though Hunter had the practice and that is why he was such a difficult opponent for Donald. That is why Hunter said, "The Achilles tendon is a very important in jumping, and not only in humans."

In the story "into the wild" by Jon Krauker, Chris the main character goes into the wild like the title says and a lot of unexpected things happen that he couldn't control. Therefore you can't control your life, because if you could he would have not had all these unexpected things to happen. When Chris graduates he decides to leave into the wild in Alaska, and not tell anyone and leave with a small amount of supplies and a beat up car. Then an accident happens and he loses his car. Then Chris dies from a shortage of food
