In “Nietzsche’s Rereading of Plato” by Catherine Zuckert , Zuckert identifies Nietzsche’s strong claims and opinions on Socrates. She mentions how Nietzsche helps us to be able to raise questions on traditional views on philosophy and look into not only Plato, but those theories of who he has inspired. Zucker states how Nietzsche is able to relate philosophy with politics. As politicians in today’s society are frequently known as hiding ones truth in order to appear differently to others, Zucker mentions how Nietzsche is able to compare Philosophy with politicians. This is because, similar to politicians, Plato had intentionally hid the truth behind Socrates on his own activity. Plato is more Christian orientated teachings than Socrates. However he does not criticize religion as he believes the denial of this life and another life, would be a sign of weakness.
Order is once brought up again as Nietzsche compares priests to philosophers because the priest teaches reactions against current order.
Knowledge is brought up when Nietzsche separates philosophy with its influence. Socrates and Plato see influence as an illusion because Plato believes that you can correct error with knowledge and Socrates and the positioning of another world in Plato. Nietzsche brings up how Socrates does not believe his own teachings by using the idea he has of knowledge being virtue. This teaching by Plato purposely misleads noble men into optimism of life and dreading death.
Zuckers “Rereading of Plato” had gave me a chance to not only analyze Plato’s writings but both Socrates and Plato. The reading had also let me have an insight on what kind for people Nietzsche and Plato were. As I knew that both philosophers differentiate din their teachings, I was able to see what Nietzsche’s direct critics of Plato had
