He drove on until he came to a stop in front of the Alabama state line. Shiftlet looked around in the car, he found a crumpled piece of paper on the floorboard behind the passenger seat. He opened it, instantly he knew it was from Lucynell. It would be impossible for anyone other than Shiftlet to make out. He opened it and the crumpled piece of paper had the word “Bird” obscenely written on it. He held it in the only hand he had left, and crumpled it as small as he could….and threw it out the window. Only for the piece of paper to be a sponge for the rain. Shiftlet looked up and out the window, he had seen that the darkness of the storm was upon him, while his head was out the window, a single drop of rain fell upon his face. He leaned in and wiped it off. …show more content…
shiftlet put the car in drive and left . He came to a stop in front of the “Krystal hamburgers” restaurant. With the 16 dollars and 25 cents he had left from buying lucynell food at the dinner and him having had picked up a pack of LM,s. he bought his food and stared out the window, the streets were quiet for the most part. On occasion a car would glide down on the now soaked road. Shiftlet watched droplets slide down the window, some acting as if they were on the run from police, some moving as if they were moving to say goodbye to their loved ones… slow….hesitantly. The restaurant allowed people to smoke so he brought out his matches and lit his cigarette, he and the busboy were the only ones in there. He put his cigarette out and took another glance out the window. Shiftlet witnessed a man smash his window to his car and try to assumingly take off with it, he ran to the thief. Grabbed him and threw him into the car, the thief turned around and pointed a revolver at his head. Lowered it as if he wasn't going to shoot… and shot shiflet in the leg, as he fell his head it the ground, blurry eyed he had seen the revolver move to his throat, and heard a shot.
