The Civil War of was a fight between the North and South States. The Northern states wanted the freedom and equality for all men no matter the color. While the Southern states were wanting to keep slavery alive and prospering. Why do you ask? Well, the South had found a new way of making money besides raising crops, they were in the industry of slave trading. In other words, slaves were like cattle, they would use the African women as baby factories in order to provide slaves to sell at the market. Even though the Northern states had African Americans fighting among them, they were never mentioned or really talked about the African heroes who fought among the whites. Therefore, African American soldiers who fought in the Civil War should have gotten the respect, acknowledgment, and their complete freedom. …show more content…
These two type of people who fought alongside each other could not find it to work together. Each of them were treated differently even though they were supposed to have been fighting for the same cause. In the article The State Of Letters, states the following: “We also more aware that ever that, if the story of the war is to be told in its totality, the narrative needs to incorporate not only the Union and Confederate perspectives but also the African-American”( McCARDELL JR. ). In other words, we need to tell the real truth not the truth that has been written about for so many years and has been passed down from generation to generation. We need to find the “whole” truth not just what certain people want us to know. Let us find the lost or misplaced stories of all those African Americans who fought in this battle and give them the respect that they
