In 1776 the early American colonies had a massive decision to make that would ultimately change the face of the world. Our nation’s founding father met in Philadelphia to discuss the issue of American independence. These discussions lead to one of the most important document in our young nation’s history, the Declaration of Independence. This document authored by the future president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, plotted a new course in personal freedoms and ideals in the world. Jefferson, however, did not stop at just writing the Declaration of Independence, he also is authored many other important documents and chartered the University of Virginia. They say that often time many successful ideas are crushed because they try to do too much. This could not be more wrong because when complacency, strikes failure follows. This can be seen through one of Apple’s earlier competitors, Blackberry. In the early 2000s, Blackberry was the tech market leader. They created cutting edge smartphone combined with razor sharp graphics. However, they failed to constantly innovate in their market, they sat back and allowed other companies to catch up with them. This business tactic has completely wrecked Blackberry as they now only create graphics, instead of the smartphones. Blackberry goes to show that complacency and sitting back only lead to failure.
When asking if it is better to constantly be active or if inactivity serves a purpose, it is clear to see that being constantly active is the clear winner. It can be seen through the success of Vanderbilt and Apple, but also the failures of Blackberry. Constantly doing something is what leads to long term success. If our founding fathers had been complacent, the British would have retained their rule on the colonies, and the free world today would be without the global
