The meaning of adult is “a person who is fully grown or developed” as stated in the Oxford dictionary. Are 18 years olds truly considered adults or are we impling the age of responsibility on the age in which teenagers feel they are capability of handling responsibilities? Ultimately, teens don’t have the experience nor mental capability to handle responsibilities. Therefore, the age of responsibility should be 21. In the article, ”Teenage Brain are malleable and vulnerable”author John Hamilton talks about how the teenage brain is constantly changing and easily manipulated do to the fact that the brain is not fully developed. In the article,”The distracted teenage brain” Allison Pierce talks about how the teenage brain is easily manipulated due to rewards. “Once the teenagers brain has linked a behavior to that reward, it continues to seek that reward again and again”,states Allison Pierce.When Alison Pierce talks about a reward she doesn't necessarily mean a physical gift, it can imply a feeling. Take social media as an example teens are more likely to spend more time on social media than studying for a test due to the fact that social media is funny and entertaining as comparison to finishing a history paper that is due the next day. Teens don’t take in considerations the consequence of their actions many times, so why should we trust teen to take on these responsibilities If teens can,t handle the simple responsibility of studying or finishing a paper;How can we trust that teens will make the right decisions.Unlike 18 year old 21 is the age in which people have a job,pay rent, or go off to college. They see the importance of a responsibility like failing a class in college result in paying more money to retake that class. 21 year olds also see the importance of having a job and being able to support themselves financially unlike 18 year olds who still live with their parent with no job nor a care in the world whether they pass or fail a class and because of this we should change the age of responsibility to
