Insanity is a derangement of the mind; which basically means the control of the mind. It’s also how a certain type of object, physically or mentally controls your mind. This essay is about “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe. The plot is to kill the old man. The essential conflict is that the old man was sick and his eye started to swell up. The narrator started to go insane because of the eye. So to stop going insane, the narrator kills the old man. In “The Tell-Tale Heart”, Edgar Allen Poe uses characterization, symbolism, and diction to display how the narrator is very insane about the old man’s eye.
The characterization in the story shows how the narrator is insane about getting rid of the old man’s vulture eye. The narrator will do anything to make sure that he gets rid of the old man’s vulture eye. “Every night about twelve o’clock I slowly opened his door. And when the door was opened wide enough I put my hand in, and then my head” (line 30). In this quote, the narrator shows insanity by creeping in the old man’s room at twelve o’clock every night. The narrator will go over and beyond to get rid of the old man’s vulture eye.
