Although the two books The Tequila Worm by Viola Canales and Gabi A Girl in Pieces by Isabel Quintero are about young girls narrating their lives, they both live different lifestyles. One girl has a father that is always there for her, and the other has a father that isn’t always there for her. When comparing Sofia in the book The Tequila Worm and Gabi in the book Gabi A Girl in Pieces, they both seem to live different lives. Sofia has a father that is always there for her and guides her through her childhood. She has that guidance, love and support from him and as a result, has positively impacted her life. She follows a bright future and lives a happy life. In contrast, Gabi’s dad is absent throughout the majority of her life and has low self-esteem and self-doubt. She is hesitant when making decisions and she doesn’t have that father figure that guides her though her life. In the story it states, “He was waltzing Mama around the kitchen, beaming at her. Mama was laughing, her head back, her hair flowing. They looked like teenagers. He laughed, took Mama’s right hand, and kissed it gently. “Gracias, mi amor.
