Has it ever happened to you when you get a really bad day and then all of the sudden it's a great day? Ansel Adams picture is showing that except it is in the form of weather. Ansel Adams picture looks like the storm is coming and you can see the clear sky behind it. He was trying to show that with every darkness, with every hurdle in life, there is always light, there is always a reward at the other end.
In The Tetons and the Snake River by Ansel Adams The light and the dark are very similar. This picture is almost like the yin and yang the dark and light coexisting as if they are one. This picture is a great example that with every problem there is a reward and with every reward there is a problem. The problems and rewards are equals. In life there are many hurdles and at times there can be points where people want to give up but they don't because they know it will pass and there will be a reward. His use of shades of gray, black, and white really brought out the meaning of this painting. It makes it a simple and complicated picture at the same time. Though the storm seems to still be passing you can see past the dark you can see past the truble. The picture shows that the light the reward is nearing. The river is right in the middle of the dark the light is near because the light is reflecting off of the river. The contrast in the light is showing that the dark is still there but it is almost gone it is easing into the light. The light is a sign of triumph that the hurdle/problem has past.
