In All Summer In A Day, author Ray Bradbury shows readers how Jealousy can be overpowering and lead people to do things that they regret. Throughout the story, the children are jealous of Margot’s history with the sun. This is apparent when she is reading her poem. The children also lock her into a closet. There were many other hurtful things the children did to Margot in this story. Consequently, they end up regretting everything they did when the envy had passed. All Summer In A Day has major themes of jealousy and regret, and here is my evidence why. The children were Jealous of Margot because of her past with the sun. This is shown throughout the story. For example, when she was reading her poem to the class one of the kids accused her of stealing it. This shows their resentment. They don’t want to believe that Margot had seen the sun before she had moved to Mars. In addition, the children locked her into a closet. This can also show their jealousy. Another possible theme is selfishness or greed. Both of these are shown when they lock Margot into the closet. The people wanted the sun all to themselves, and didn’t want her to be able to see it again. Others say that bullying is a major theme. The kids are rude to her and bully her constantly. For example, when the kids were shoving her and telling her that the sun coming out was only a joke. Also, some people even think that the bullying could be somewhat Margot’s fault. Whenever the students try to include her, such as in a game of tag, she ignores them. She only participates in singing when they are singing about the sun. That’s why some people think Margot is getting bullied. Even though all of those themes show up in the story, they all tie back into the main theme of
