It seems that every popular book, movie, or T.V. show has a romance or friendship involved. The characters are in constant search of someone to satisfy them, as this can be seen in many works of american literature. In The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, Ichabod Crane is desperately trying to court Katrina Van Tassel, and it capitalizes on his loneliness. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, main focus throughout the whole story is Gatsby's relationship with Daisy. It also shows the relationship of Gatsby and Nick, Tom and Myrtle, and even Jordan and Daisy. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel filled with relationships, however the greatest between Gatsby and Daisy, Gatsby longs to be with Daisy throughout the entire story and had never stopped waiting for her. From the very beginning when the audience is first introduced to Gatsby, it is clear he is searching for something and when Jordan tells Nick about Gatsby's plan to meet Daisy it is revealed the Gatsby has been in search of Daisy ever since he had to leave her. This shows the clear theme of a need for companionship, Gatsby has been unable to move on, he throws parties every night, moves close to Daisy, and becomes acquainted with Daisy’s friends, all to see Daisy again.
