The Timothy Cole Story
There is about 2.3 million people incarcerated in America. In the 2.3 million a small percentage is actually innocent. Timothy Cole was misidentified and wrongfully convicted. Cole, overtime, decided to give up from the inside. (“Wagner”)
Michelle Mallin was sexually assaulted in Lubbock, Texas. This crime happened on March 24, 1985. Michelle Mallin had helped a man jump start his vehicle when she was held against her will in a car with a man she did not know. Timothy Cole’s Connection. Johnson later wrote a letter to Coles mother. She says “He’ll never have children again; I want you to know he was a fine young man. Johnson finally got to confess in front of the court and years later Cole was exonerated. While waiting for the time to pass Cole would have Asthma attacks. Cole in the year 1999 died of an asthma attack. Coles case was an extraordinary case because it changed the justice system. In Lubbock, Texas the timothy Cole act was passed.The act gave people who were wrongfully convicted 80,000 dollars for every year in prison. People should know this because not everyone is guilty. People automatically assume that if you were in jail you are a criminal which is rue but not in this case. Cole was misidentified and incorrect tests were done on him. Cole did not do the crime of raping Michele Mallin but a man name jerry Wayne Johnson did.
