Lemon Brown owned a precious treasure, but, it was only precious to him. To others, this would be odd, but when it showed it's face to a boy named Greg Ridley. The Treasures of Lemon Brown is a short story written by Walter Dean Myers, It features a young boy named Greg finding an old, abandoned house to find shelter from the rain. There, he meets Lemon Brown, a raggedy, poor man. When Greg encounters Lemon Brown, he was quite scared, but as as time goes on his opinions about him change. Eventually, he grows to see that Lemon is a kind man and not just homeless hooligan. But, Lemon also unknowingly teaches Greg another lesson too.

One of the thugs threatens Lemon with violence. Lemon is about to hand over all that he has, but in an act of bravery, Lemon stands up for the both of them and hurls himself down the stairs, hitting the men that dared to threaten them. Soon, Greg refers to Lemon as Mr. Brown for saving his life, showing indirectly that he respects Lemon. This contrasts to the beginning because now, he isn't a timid boy anymore and instead, finds a hero in somebody he was scared of. Now, Lemon shows his part in the mutual relationship by showing his treasure to the now trusted Greg. The treasure is something that Lemon entrusted his now dead son with, it has a lot of value to specifically him, this, unbeknownst to Lemon calls back to the story's start, where Greg is mad at his father, this reminds Greg that all his father is trying to do is help him succeed.

All in all, The Treasure of Lemon Brown is a story about loving, as Lemon did his son. Greg realizes that his father is right in not letting him play sports and replacing sports with studies, as this only helps Greg. He even becomes less timid by the end of the story, which doesn't even link to the theme. Greg is hardly even recognizable by the end of the story and becomes a new (and better)
