By making us obsessed with reality television, they also made it easier for us as an audience to watch it by giving us more options on how we want to watch our shows. In The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, an announcer for The Truman Show said, “Broadcast live and unedited twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to an audience around the globe,” (Weir). With a show that runs with no commercials, broadcasts live 24 hours day, is the perfect show for audience members. It’s very convenient for the viewers because they don’t have to watch commercials, the show plays non-stop, and Truman’s reactions are all real. By giving us these easier options, with a live 24-7 broadcast or being able to watch it on any device shows that we are in control of what will stay and what will go. With these media productions using those ways for us to keep watching their films or shows, proves that they will do anything for us as long as we continue to watch what they put out.
Since we become so obsessed with that sort of television and know what shows we want, we soon want to be a part of production and call the shots. In The Truman Show directed by Peter Weir, we are shown a scene inside a bar after Truman just got off the bus when he was trying to leave for Chicago. One of waitresses behind the bar made a comment about why Truman is not allowed to leave Seahaven. She says, “He’s not going to Chicago. He’s not going anywhere. He has to have it out with Meryl.” After that scene we see Truman and Meryl then riding on her bike back home to talk to Truman (Weir).
