The Twelve Tribes of Hattie is the novel written by Ayana Mathis and is considered as the national bestseller. It tells t about a young woman named Hattie who moves from Georgia to Philadelphia in 1923, as part of the period which is now known as the Great Migration. She raises ten more children after her two firstborn die. The structure of this novel is divided and narrated in chapters by some of her children, her husband and Hattie herself. The book opens with the birth of Philadelphia and Jubilee which quickly captures my interest.
