Everyone loves the Toy Story movies. The Toy Story trilogy is about a rambunctious group of toys who can talk and have adventures. The anthropomorphic toys live in a world where they pretend to be lifeless when people are around, but whenever they leave, the toys act as if they are humans themselves. While the movie seems to be about toys that come alive and live secret lives, there is an underlying theme: friendship. There is friendship between all types of characters portrayed in these iconic movies.
The most valuable friendship in Toy Story is between Buzz and Woody. Their friendship starts out in a rough spot when Buzz becomes the new toy on the block. All the toys and Andy, their owner, start to favor Buzz over Woody. Woody loathes Buzz and even tries to sabotage him. Eventually, Buzz and Woody are captured by an evil kid named Syd. Syd is going to blow up Buzz with a firecracker, when Woody realizes he should save Buzz. Buzz realizes that Woody has saved his life, which starts an unlikely friendship. The two toys start working in collaboration to be the leader of the other toys. They overcome their differences to become the best of friends. Their friendship is carried throughout all three movies. Woody is Andy’s favorite toy since kindergarten and they have numerous adventures together. From age 7 to 17, Woody is always a massive part of Andy’s life. Whenever Andy turns 17, he is faced with a decision of what to do with his toys. He decides to take Andy to college with him and put the other toys in the attic.
