Poe uses mood to create distinct feel in every one of his stories. He does his best to incorporate every component of a story to assist in setting the mood. In “The Raven”, his most successful story, poe uses the dark, dreary december night setting as a means to set the melancholy mood. Also in “Tell-Tale Heart” his explanation of the caretakers hatred for the old man’s “pale blue eye”(poe) sets a horrific and suspenseful mood to make the reader want more.
