Syntax In the nonfiction novel ‘‘Heaven is for Real,” the narrator, Pastor Todd Burpo, utilized syntax in a heavily emotional sense by the application of techniques such as varied sentence structures, repetition, parallelism, detailed subordinating clauses, exclamatory sentences, and quotation marks. Every single use of syntax was directly enforced by Todd to cause a sensation of complex sentiment within each and every one of his readers; undoubtedly prompted to focus, the reader went on an emotional roller coaster.
