The Valdivia Earthquake was the worst earthquake in Southern Chile. The earthquake was a 9.5 earthquake (the rating of the earthquake, how bad, and big it is) The Valdivia earthquake was the largest earthquake of the 20th century. The exact date was May twenty-second 1960. Most of the damage and deaths were caused by a series of tsunamis that were generated by the 9.5 earthquake. The costs of the damage were estimated to be between 400 and 800 million dollars. The damage was really bad near Hilo, Hawaii, 61 people were reported killed by the waves.
