Ray Bradbury's The Veldt teaches readers that emotions cover up logical thinking. People's mental state can bury their smart thoughts by holding too much empathy for an object or person. Or by feeling a lot of joy or fear in one specific item. Throughout the short story the Hadley family feel powerful emotions of fear, disgust, happiness, confusion and curiosity, This paper will show readers why the The Veldts theme is this. Towards the beginning of the story Lydia hadley goes to her husband George Hadley and tells him that she is fearful that there is something wrong with the Nursery or children.Then as both of their emotions build up they then try and find a solution. They may say that the evidence behind this is throughout the story the children become more strange and mental because the parents had a house to take care of them and not themselves so they didn't really pay attention to them. But this is not true because in the story the mom and dad show that they care about their children a lot, a few examples are, one they payed an extra 15,000 dollars so that the children can have a fun and safe environment to explore in. two the house takes care of them so they won't feel neglected when the parents aren't there. three the parents immediately realized something was wrong with them. Thus proving that they pay attention to their kids. Towards the end of the tale the parents were going to shut down the nursery. So then the children were so clogged with the joy they had found in the nursery and hatred of the parents shutting it down that they made a very bad decision. The 2 kids locked their parents in the nursery so they would get eaten. this proves that with a strong emotion it will consume all thoughts of logical thinking.
