You go to the theater to see the new slasher movie with your friends, the movie follows its usual formula. It starts out with a group of friends having fun, they hear a few bumps in the night, and then the jump scenes begin. From this point a few different things could happen, all the characters are picked off one by one, or we are left with the one and only final girl. The final girl has experienced a little bit of everything, she finds all her friends dead, and watches her boyfriend get gutted, it’s her typical Friday night. The final girl has one job and one job only; beat the slasher and survive. Whether you like her or not, at the end of the movie you always end up rooting for the survivor girl. From the beginning of Elm Street Nancy is a strong force, and she plans on surviving even if no one believes her. Nancy battles Freddy with the help of her friends, until she is the last one left. Something to admire about Nancy is she didn’t defeat her slasher with a knife or a gun, she figured out how to beat him with courage. “She turns her back on him. It’s the ultimate demonstration of courage and bravery, and something that even Freddy can’t overcome. She literally takes the power away from him” (Why). Laurie was a little different compared to Nancy’s. Laurie had the bookworm personality that Clover described and made jokes about how she scared boys away. Sex and virginity is obviously a big deal in Halloween, “From the time he killed Judith, Michael hated sex” (Kawin 143). Later in the movie after Lynda and Bob have sex Michael also murders them. Although Laurie fought off her slasher and survived, ultimately Dr. Loomis saved Laurie by shooting Michael. One in the same Nancy and Laurie finished the movie alive but with no friends
