The Wars Timothy Findley Analysis

As suggested in Timothy Findley’s The Wars, we see the need for emotional courage not only for survival but also the need for making it through separation emotionally and physically. It isn’t necessary but it is very important to yourself and others to be able to find your emotional courage and be able to be yourself if you want to live a better life. In most scenarios in life when an individual struggles to exert courage and take the leap of faith they find themselves in a constant state of uncertainty and don't experience what they should. Robert seemed to be a likeable guy and seemed to have friends in and out of the war, he had family back at home and its certain he missed them. Robert not only had to deal with the loss of his sister or the separation from his life back home but he also had to deal with the death of his friend Devlin being shot and killed for trying to help him let horses out. Robert was horrified by the loss of his friend and he did something he thought would make it right and that was to shoot the fellow commanding officer who shot Devlin. Robert was also frightened to find out that his good friend Taffler had lost both of his arms in a battle. It's not certain to say but there's a very good chance the horrors of war were starting to set in for Robert, he was missing his family, the death of his friends and just the survival instinct needed to survive must have been crippling. It's easy to assume that Robert never would have made it as far as he did without him being able to bring out that inner emotional courage and deal with the separation from his family and friends as good as he did. Therefore we see how strong willed Robert was as an individual and the quote “Complaints about reality are immature” really show how much he got reality and how life is unfair but you have to strive to
