In the novel The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963, written by Christopher Paul Curtis. There are many examples of racism, and as Muhammad Ali once said, “ hating people because of their color is wrong, and it doesn’t matter which color does the hating, it’s just plain wrong.” This quote represents the themes of the novel, because in this time period people just wouldn’t accept blacks. This went on even though the the Declaration of Independence clearly states that all men are created equal.

When Kenny was watching the television, he saw people being so cruel to African Americans, I believe that no kid should ever have to question why whites were giving dirty finger signs to blacks. “we'd seen the pictures of a bunch of really mad white people with twisted-up faces screaming and giving dirty finger signs to some little Negro kids who were trying to go to school.
