It is notable that before the 19th-century women in the societal were regarded as inferior beings, and they had no important position in the society. The family settings in the medieval period were patriarchal for example, and everyone was okay with the setting. It was unimaginable that one-day women would stand at the same position as men were and had to make decisions amongst men. What is more amazing is that one woman did not wait for the centuries to pass and have modernization help her; she stood up against her husband’s willing to be anauthority of the homestead. Maternal families were not imagined let alone being in existence, but one woman tried her level best to take the top position in the family. “The Canterbury Tales: The Wife Of Bath's Prologue” is a medieval period writing presenting a woman who went against the societal beliefs and practices. The wife of Bath did not believe in the societal setting where men were regarded as symbols of authority and as the decision makers and controllers of the household. It is notable that during the medieval period the church was strict regarding marriage and family matters requiring chastity and wife submission to husbands as well as use of sex as a means of procreating not pleasure.
