Words are powerful methods of getting your point across. They can be used to harm and hurt individual’s feelings, or to just be mean to someone. All words have a meaning and whether the meaning is bad or good is the person’s choice if they use it and how they use it. Our culture today is filled with a ton of colorful and negative words, and we go around saying what we want and chose who to say it to. A popular word that is used today is ghetto. It is a word that has always been in our vocabulary and used to hurt someone’s feelings. We use this word and never truly understand what the history of the word is and where did it come from. It was finally the end of death and destruction, but was the beginning of racial discrimination and racism. The word ghetto had been already a bad word and it seemed to get worst based upon how people used it in society. The word ghetto became a negative word and had its first real meaning ti many individuals. At the time peoples' views on the word were not so great and felt like it was a cursed word that needed to end. Jews were still having backlash over the word and when it was used against them, they got offended. You could not go around using this word because it would start riots and fights when the word was heard. The word impacted so many individuals because all they knew of the word at the time was that it was negative and hurtful. Ghettos were eventually dissolved and blacks and Jews could live where they wanted and go where they wanted to. Ghetto was now a word that was not used often and a word that was put to a halt. Many races did not bring it up because they knew it would cause people to act out and cause uproars and fights.
