The artwork of Frida Kahlo, The Wounded Deer, 1946, instantly caught my attention, it evoked some unsettling emotions within me, and hence why I chose to take a closer look at the art piece. Kahlo’s painting is a self- portrait which is synchronism of her Mexican and European heritage and how each aspect of her heritage is interwoven with their various belief systems. The medium, which is the physical means by which a picture is communicated, is oil paint on canvas. The period in which this piece was drawn is known as Naïve Art (primitivism).
