Women’s freedom has historically been an issue in earlier generations, even leading into modern day society. This is evident in many pieces of literature, including Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper.” In the piece, the female narrator, Jane, is confined into a room by her husband, John, because he believes she is losing her sanity. John, who is also a doctor, is very practical and does not like to believe in irrational things. As a result of her isolation from the world, the woman in this writing has a burning hunger for freedom and independence.
